About 4 weeks ago I accidentally ate sugar a few times (wasn’t using my brain) and broke out.  It took me a bit to realize what I had done.

Since then, I have had 2 weekends “off” (one nongluten-free and this past weekend I also allowed sugar on a trip).  My face has EXPLODED with adult acne.  Sigh.

I have come to accept that this is most likely a candida issue.  After the holidays, I will be going on an anti-candida diet.  Blerg.  Not looking forward to it.  I am reading The Yeast Connection and so much speaks to me.  Along with that diet I plan to also be gluten-free (his diet isn’t) since gluten can feed the yeasties.  After Thanksgiving I am going to start taking Candex (and after Christmas I will change my diet).

I really, really hope this works.  My face hurts. 😦

I’m just putting this out there.

I am thinking of also trying to be dairy-free.

My skin is pretty good – occasional flare ups and they seem hormone-related.  But I am thinking of dropping dairy to see if it helps with energy levels (still low – is it me or just normal f/t working mommyhood??) and to see if it helps clear up my sinuses a bit.

This is a big change for me.  I love brie, my yogurt, cream in my coffee, and good butter.  I also LOVE ice cream but since discovering agave syrup sweetened coconut ice cream I am very much fine in that department.

Anyway, it’s a thought.  A slightly scary thought.  But the holidays are soon and I see that as a stopping point for the gluten-free experiment so it will be that for the dairy-free one as well (not the sugar-free one – that’s staying put).**

Tonight, though, brie cheese will be eaten.

**I will be eating what I want on Thanksgiving and also Christmas day.  After that I will decide if the gluten (and possibly dairy, now) is a real issue for me or not.

I used to loooooove Magic Shell.  I haven’t had it too much in recent years and, when I did, it made me feel yucky (gee, wonder why).  But I still held it on this yummy pedestal (I am very bad at remembering that things I used to enjoy that I stop enjoying means I don’t actually enjoy them any more – sigh).

So last night I had some Purely Decadent vanilla bean ice cream and decided to drizzle on some pure cocoa (just a block of Trader Joe’s baker’s chocolate melted in the microwave).  Voila – gluten-free, sugar-free “magic shell” that was SO GOOD and did not make me feel nasty!

I know I said I was writing a gluten-free Disneyland post.  I still plan to.  I hope to get it done before next week since I go back to work then (grumble – stressing about that).

I’m still here and I still plan to write a gf DL post, I promise.

Things are going well on the gf and sf front.  I start back to work next week so that will be an interesting challenge.

Starting tomorrow I will be waking up at the butt crack of dawn to do some yoga.  I’ll likely get a fee more practices from Yoga Download.

Today’s yoga involved doing 11 (!) loads of laundry.  Jealous?

We’re taking a 3 day family vacation to Disneyland to celebrate Z’s 4th birthday.  I will be heading to Town Hall to get my list of gluten-free foods at the park and doing my best.  I won’t be so concerned about sugar on this trip.  Obviously, no blatant sweet stuff like ice cream but my focus will be on gluten-free (since they make it so easy there) and if there’s some hidden sugar in a food I won’t sweat it.

I am slightly broken out right now and my lovely ladyhood started this morning (just in time for DL – woohoo!).

When we’re back I plan to do a post on gluten-free choices at Disneyland.

Just a quick pot about how much I love these.  I never considered myself a fan of carob but the Holistic Carob Chip cookie is sooooo good.  Tastes like firm cookie dough to me.  It’s gluten and sugar free (plus vegan).

Delicious.

After my tea and scones treat where I felt like my body was going to lift out of my chair because I was so fricken high, I broke out a couple of days later. Not as bad as in the past but definitely the worst break out since dropping sugar.

It’s been 2 1/2 weeks since then and my skin is blemish-free (minus one small one at my nose where my glasses rest).  I am not wearing any cover up on my chin r around my mouth – this used to never happen!

I’ve been gluten-free for almost 2 weeks now.  It’s been easy enough.  No idea if it is affecting my face but I’ll keep at it for a few months just to see.

…a brand new yoga mat.

…a Forrest Yoga practice on the new mat.

…figuring out future “what to do with my life” plans (near future, want to be a stay at home mother, but “future future” have decided to first become a La Leche League Leader and then a Doula.)  I am so excited!  (I am burnt out in my current career, which I just entered the 12th year, so hence the future thoughts post-SAHMness)

…ending the day curled up on the couch watching The Daily Show, sipping some kefir, and enjoying gluten-free, sugar-free truffles.

Amy over at Simply Sugar & Gluten-Free tagged me with my very first ever blog award.  Thank you Amy!!  What a sweet surprise to see that as I was reading her blog tonight.  Made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

I now get to pass on the award to 13 blogs that have touched my life.

Autumn Lotus Yoga (I am loving this blog and it definitely has me intrigued re: Forrest Yoga)

Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Sugar-free (love looking over her recipes)

My Year Without Sugar (a great blog for me to read, especially when I first axed the sugar from my diet)

The Reluctant Ashtangi (her posts about yoga truly inspire me)

Big Fat Deal (A body acceptance blog I read regularly; has been important in my journey the last couple of years)

The F Word (same as BFD; the 2 bloggers also happened to be on a talk show together a couple years ago, discussing body acceptance)

Real Food Mama (I’m a mother currently reading Real Food – this traditional foods blog is right up my alley)

The Everything Yoga Blog (lots of useful info here; inspirational)

It’s All Yoga, Baby (I’ve recently begun reading this blog – love the posts on current issues in the yoga world)

Gluten-Free Gobsmacked (great looking recipes that I plan to try; loved reading about her adoption)

Girl Gone Primal (I’m not a primal eater but I still enjoy reading this blog – and the delicious Primal Choco-Nutty Treats came from here. Yum!)

Cheese Slave (real food, great posts, and lots of great discussion in the comments)

No Food Diet (way more restrictions than me but lots of interesting, creative recipes – love the monkeys rating scale, too!)

Wow!  I did it, heh.  13 seemed steep but once I started going through my blogroll it was very easy since there are so many blogs I love!

In accepting the award, you are asked to pass it on to 13 other blogs you love.  Simply copy the award on to your PC and share this with bloggers you admire.  It’s fun!

Thanks Amy!!

I have to try these.

I haven’t made my own hummus in years.  This has inspired me to start making it again.

So excited about this find.

Even more excited to learn more about Forrest Yoga.

My face has totally reacted to the recent sugar (and, ahem, beer – I had a few good-bye Guinesses).  It’s amazing to see how my body reacted in the moment and also how it rebelled on my face.  I’m glad to have such tangible reminders, quite honestly.  Helps keep me in reality.  It also sucks that a brief treat means a few days of reminders on my face.

Gluten is getting kicked to the curb tomorrow.  I’m already mentally planning for our Disneyland trip in a few weeks (and also told the cast member taking my reservation about the gluten-free meal needed at Z’s Ariel Grotto birthday dinner).

A gluten-free fun read.

Reading Real Food prompted me to tell my husband that I wanted a family dairy cow.  He said we could keep her in my closet.  Heh.  I also said that, in the far off future, when we have a house I would love to have chickens.  He actually seemed open to that.  In the mean time I will live vicariously through this blogging mama’s experience with (soon) owning a goat.  How fun!
